West Bengal SIR Case| Hearing at the Supreme Court on West Bengal SIR: The side of the Election Commission on ‘Tarkik Disinfections’
The West Bengal SIR Case Election Commission has said that many "logical discrepancies" found in the voter list and "scientific discrepancies" data of India’s Election Commission (EC) filed a rapport in the Supreme Court stated that many "logical discrepancies" found in the voter list of West Bengal are contrary to the rules of science. The Commission has strongly opposed the criticism that these discrepancies are a way to depriving voters for voting.
Here are the key points:
- West Bengal SIR Case|The Election Commission on Scientificly Impossible’ Family Information stated that some voters’ names have been linked to unusually excessive number of children, who accept as "valid mapping" is not scientifically possible. The Commission also put some staggering figures in this context in front of the court.
2 Voters: More than 200 children are shown.
7 voters: who have more than 100 children.
10 voters: who have more than 50 children.
10 voters: who have more than 40 children.

Also:
4,59,054 cases are found where there are more than 5 children of one voter.
2,06,056 cases are where there are more than 6 children of one voter in West Bengal.
- "Mapping" and the basis of the investigation
Mapping (Mapping): This is the technical term used by the Commission, which is used to link the dynasty of the voter to the voter list of 2002.
The Commission has decided that in cases where six or more people have mapped themselves to a person, the validity of the linkage will be examined intensively.
Reference to NFHS-5 data: The Commission argued that the average family size in India is 4.4 (i.e. on average 2-3 children) according to the 2019-2021 NFHS-5 survey. It is suspected that more than 50 voters are connected to a parent.
Age difference: 50 years of difference between parents and children also a "Logical discrepancy" The fertility rate of women becomes negligible after the age of 45.
- The discrepancy does not mean "removing" (Deletion) The Commission clarified that the "logical discrepancy" is not meant to delete the name of the voter, but also:
This only forms the basis of issuing notices for verification.
The purpose of the notice is to clarify the discrepancy or submit the documents required for the satisfaction of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).
The Election Commission cited the "Field Reports" with claims of other petitioners, including the Juanya Congress, stating that the affected voters are primarily women and minorities or that a "algorimatic error" has been reported due to about 90% of cases.

Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Procedure and Statistics
58 lakh voters were excluded in the draft roll published on December 16, 2025 (due to status, death, permanent transfer, and dual entry). The Commission said that they should not be considered "deletions", but it is "non-inclusion" (non-inclusion) after a home-house survey.
The process was carried out with the help of 80,681 BLO (BLO), 7,000+ AERO (AERO), 294 ERO (ERO) and 4,000+ Micro-Observer.
The notice phase commenced from December 16, 2025 and will continue until February 7, 2026.
- Transparency in Digital Instruction and Hearing |West Bengal SIR Case
Preventing the presence of political agents (BLAs): The Commission expressed a link objection to the presence of booth level agents (BLA) of political parties during verification hearing. Commission argues that hearings are semi-judicial (quasi-judicial) occurs and only for the concerned persons.
West Bengal SIR Case|West Bengal has 6 National and 2 State Parties. If all 8 BLAs will be present in the hearing, the atmosphere will become chaotic and the process will be delayed.
- The Commission assured that if a voter is accidentally exempted, he may submit a proof of linkage with the previous voter list. In such cases, their name will be mandatory to be included in the final voter list.
